shortn

Remove or report

Two different problems with two different answers. If the problem is the short link, take it down here. If the problem is what it points at, that is not this site's to fix.

Take a link down

works immediately, no account

There are no accounts here, so a slug is not a secret — anyone who knows one can remove it. That is deliberate. A link that should not be up should be possible to take down without asking anyone's permission, and asking would just mean the person who reported it has to wait for a stranger to agree.

Report the destination instead

when the link is not the problem

shortn stores an address and a counter. It does not host anything, cannot see who clicked, and has no way to judge what a page on another host contains. When a short link leads somewhere harmful, the thing to act on is that page and whoever runs it — which is nearly always the hosting provider, not us.

  • A site on Cloudflare Pages or Workers is an abuse report through Cloudflare, where the hosting is.
  • A site on GitHub is a report on the repository itself.
  • Anything else is a report to the registrar or hosting company the domain sits with.
  • A link that is itself deceptive — a slug claiming to be a bank, a login or a giveaway — is worth doing both about. Remove it above, then report the destination.

If something breaks the guidelines in a way none of these tools cover, the guidelines say what happens instead.
