Terms of Service
1. What this service is
shortn is a free link shortener. You give us a long URL, we give you a short one. Visiting your short link sends people to the original destination with an HTTP 302 redirect. Along the way you can pick a custom slug, generate a QR code, and watch a live click counter. There are no accounts, no sign-ups, and no fees. Developers can use the open API at /api/create and /api/links.
2. Using shortn
By shortening a link, you confirm that:
- You have the right to share the destination URL.
- The destination is legal where you live and where your visitors live.
- You will not shorten links to malware, phishing pages, scams, ransomware, or anything that harms devices or people.
- You will not shorten links to child sexual abuse material, terrorism content, or anything illegal everywhere. There is no exception โ such links are removed immediately.
- You will not use shortn to impersonate a person, brand, or service, including slugs like
google-loginthat point somewhere that isn't Google. - You will not mass-shorten links for spam, botnets, or coordinated abuse.
3. Slugs
Slugs are first come, first served. We may reserve, rename, or delete slugs that are misleading, harmful, or used to break the rules above. We try to keep slugs short and memorable, but we don't guarantee that any specific slug stays available forever.
4. Your links and our storage
When you shorten a link, we store the destination URL, the slug, a creation timestamp, and a click counter in a Cloudflare KV namespace named LINKS. Short links and their click counts are publicly visible โ anyone can see them on the homepage's "recently shortened" list or by visiting the link. We don't sell your links, don't use them to target you, and don't hand them to third parties. The full data picture is in the Privacy Policy.
5. Redirects and responsibility
shortn only points the way. We don't host, review, or endorse the content behind your links. After the redirect, the destination site's rules and privacy practices apply, not ours. We are not responsible for what those sites do with your visitors. If a link is reported and confirmed to be abusive, we can delete it without warning.
6. The API
The API is free and unauthenticated โ that's the deal, and it comes with an expectation: don't abuse it. No flooding, no slug enumeration, no attempts to break, probe, or overload the service. Reasonable automation, bots, and tooling are welcome; anything that looks like an attack may be blocked.
7. No warranties
shortn is provided "as is". We don't promise it will always be online, that redirects will never fail, or that your slug will live forever. Cloudflare keeps it fast, but even the edge has bad days.
8. Liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, shortn and its operator are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, and our total liability for any claim is limited to what you paid us โ which is nothing, because shortn is free.
9. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. The current version always lives at shortn.pages.dev/terms/. Continuing to use shortn after changes means you accept them.
10. Contact
For questions, abuse reports, or takedown requests, reach the operator through the GitHub profile at github.com/justsadnyx-ux. Include the short URL so we can act fast.
