Community Guidelines
Last updated: October 4, 2026 · one page of rules keeps shortn fast and safe for everyone
Do
- Shorten links you have the right to share, pointing to legal, safe destinations.
- Use clear, honest slugs. A slug that hints at the destination is helpful; a slug that lies about the destination is not.
- Report abusive links to the operator at github.com/justsadnyx-ux — include the short URL.
- Use the API for fun projects, tools, and automation, at a reasonable pace.
Don't
- Shorten malware, phishing pages, scams, ransomware, or anything that harms visitors or their devices.
- Shorten illegal content of any kind. No exceptions, no appeals.
- Impersonate brands, services, or people with misleading slugs or destinations.
- Spam: no mass-shortening for unsolicited campaigns, no bot networks, no link farms.
- Abuse the service: no slug enumeration, no redirect loops, no flooding the API, no probing or breaking the infrastructure.
- Try to snipe someone else's slug to hijack their traffic — taken slugs stay taken.
If you break these rules
Links may be deleted and access may be blocked without warning. Serious or illegal abuse may be reported to the proper authorities.
Good to know
Every redirect is counted, and the most recent links are listed publicly on the homepage. If you'd rather a link not be public, don't shorten it here — or ask us to take it down and we will.
The spirit of the thing
shortn exists because long URLs are ugly. Keep it useful, keep it kind, and don't make us add more rules than this.
